Reinventing event speed racing
Interactive installation at Paris Games Week, for a speed race and performance display.
The challenge
The project was commissioned by a partner agency to animate the Xbox booth. The challenge was to create a seamless and engaging experience combining kiosk registration, physical capture via laser sensors, and video broadcasting on a giant screen.
Our approach
Development of a kiosk registration application (kiosk mode) managing webcam photo capture, opt-ins, and QR code generation. Implementation of a Node.js server communicating in real time via Socket.io with a Raspberry Pi connected to laser sensors to time the race. Integration of Unity animations and videos for display on a 10x2 meter giant screen, including a countdown and a leaderboard.
The project
For Paris Games Week, an interactive installation was designed for the Xbox booth to offer visitors a timed speed race. The physical setup, developed in collaboration with a partner agency, relies on laser sensors connected to a Raspberry Pi to capture race times in real time. The team implemented a Node.js server communicating via Socket.IO to ensure instant data synchronization between a photo registration kiosk and animations generated in Unity. Participants' performances, compared against the speed of Équipe de France football players, were then broadcast live on a giant 10x2-meter screen featuring a countdown and the generation of a results QR code.
