Automated Interactive Popup Book
The project
The Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB) sought to deploy an immersive event experience in the form of a giant, automated pop-up book. In collaboration with partner agencies, the team developed the technical control system for this phygital installation, which consists of a base, three animated double pages, and one fixed double page. The primary challenge involved precisely synchronizing, via the DMX protocol, the mechanical actions of the motors with the video mapping projection onto the relief structures. Configuration required rigorous management of the opening timings, which varied between 42 and 51 seconds per page, as well as the implementation of a Windows-based remote control environment to operate the entire system.

Behind the build
Project description
The project consists of developing the technical and interactive control system for a giant, automated 'Popup Book' for the Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB). It is a phygital installation comprising mechanical pages that unfold to serve as a medium for video projections (mapping).
Context and challenges
Commissioned by a partner agency for the OFB, this event project aims to create an immersive experience. The main technical challenge lies in the precise synchronization between the mechanical actions of the book's motors and the video projection system (mapping) via the DMX protocol.
Key achievements
Development and configuration of the control system for an automated book composed of a base, 3 animated double pages, and one fixed double page. Integration and configuration of precise timings for the motors managing the opening of the pages (between 42 and 51 seconds per page) and their closing (140 seconds). Implementation of a remote control environment and preparation of the infrastructure for video mapping on the relief structures.
Results
Successful implementation of the technical infrastructure allowing synchronization between the mechanics of the book and the video projection. Final results on the user experience and the event impact to be confirmed with the client.
Technologies and skills
DMX Control, Video Mapping, Mechanical synchronization, TeamViewer, Windows
