Automated pop-up book with DMX synchronization
Technical control development for a giant book, with pages opening in 42 to 51 seconds each.
The challenge
The project was commissioned by partner agencies on behalf of the Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB). The challenge was to create an immersive phygital experience combining physical mechanics and video projection (mapping) to raise public awareness.
Our approach
Configuration of a connected PC workstation for remote control via TeamViewer. Integration and synchronization of the mechanical timings for opening and closing the pages. Coordination with the teams in charge of video mapping and DMX management.
The project
The Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB) sought to deploy an immersive event experience in the form of a giant, automated pop-up book. In collaboration with partner agencies, the team developed the technical control system for this phygital installation, which consists of a base, three animated double pages, and one fixed double page. The primary challenge involved precisely synchronizing, via the DMX protocol, the mechanical actions of the motors with the video mapping projection onto the relief structures. Configuration required rigorous management of the opening timings, which varied between 42 and 51 seconds per page, as well as the implementation of a Windows-based remote control environment to operate the entire system.
