The Backend API Powering VR Skills
Designed and deployed a backend API managing authentication and data for 2 technical VR training scenarios.
The challenge
Engie needed an immersive virtual reality training solution for its employees, with strict access management via OKTA. The main challenge was to provide a seamless experience while respecting the security and infrastructure constraints of the Engie group.
Our approach
Development of an API for managing training sessions and roles (trainer, trainee). Integration of OKTA authentication with a VR numeric keypad. Configuration and deployment of the application on Engie's infrastructure (PHP8 and PostgreSQL containers). Implementation of a tracking system for dropouts and training types.
The project
To digitize and secure its low and high-voltage technical training programs, Engie initiated the development of Virsafe, a virtual reality learning application designed for its employees. The team designed and deployed the backend infrastructure and a REST API using Symfony and PHP 8, enabling the management of sessions, user roles, and the reporting of anomalies detected directly from the VR headsets. The primary technical challenge involved integrating enterprise SSO authentication via Okta into the immersive environment, adapting the interface for use with a virtual numeric keypad. The entire solution was containerized with Docker and successfully deployed on Engie's secure cloud environments via Jenkins and Platform.sh pipelines, ensuring the seamless synchronization of training data to the back-office.
