For Xbox at Paris Games Week, an interactive installation challenges visitors to a sprint against professional football players. The technical challenge lay in the live synchronization between the ground crossing sensors and the giant screen. The setup brings together a touchscreen registration kiosk, an instrumented ten-meter track, and a ten-meter LED wall. Two optical beams measure speed to instantly generate a personalized badge downloadable to smartphones via a QR code. The installation operated without interruption throughout the entire duration of the trade show.

Deploying the activation simultaneously across two booths required a sustained pace to handle the trade show's visitor flow. The challenge lay in physical synchronization: linking ground sensors, laser timing, a screen wall, and a local server. If the signal drifts by even a tenth of a second, the race loses all credibility.

The approach

We developed the entire technical pipeline. The visitor registers at a touchscreen kiosk, takes their photo, and selects their opponent from among five players. As soon as they take off onto the synthetic turf track, optical laser and infrared beams automatically trigger the timer. In front of them, a ten-meter large-format LED wall broadcasts the selected footballer's sprint, calculating their performance index live. At the finish line, the screen displays the scores while a cloud module generates a personalized badge downloadable via QR code. A local back office handles management and data purging.

Results

The system ensured uninterrupted operation throughout the entire duration of Paris Games Week 2022. Live synchronization held without any lag across every sprint. Visitors downloaded and shared their badges on social networks right after stepping off the track.
