A giant pop-up book brought to life through projection mapping was programmed for the Office Français de la Biodiversité. The installation required real-time image adjustment onto three-dimensional sets articulated by motors. The studio developed the centralized software control system synchronizing the projector network and the DMX controllers. This system maintained precise visual alignment across the three motorized double-page spreads throughout each complete cycle. The automated system ran continuously for the entire duration of the event activation dedicated to public awareness.

Success relies on millimeter-precise synchronization. The pages and relief scenery move using an automated controller. The projection must hug every volume in real time, without latency or visual offset, cycle after cycle, under the watchful eyes of visitors.

The approach

In front of the audience, a giant wooden book opens. A rear disc and relief elements deploy mechanically. To bring this digital scenography to life, we developed the PLC control system ensuring the opening and closing kinematics. We linked the video mapping to the physical movements of the motorized pages via MadMapper, Resolume, DMX, and OSC. On site, we prepared, installed, and configured the centralized control station connecting video projectors, local network, and motor controllers.

Results

The system operated without interruption throughout the awareness-raising events. The dynamic alignment of the projection on the moving reliefs held across all animation cycles, without visual drift or mechanical blockage.
