Three hundred sixty degrees of zoom without lag

A 360 immersive exhibition handles heavy macro images while preserving display speed.

Kering deployed an interactive 360° experience to showcase the heritage archives of the house of Balenciaga. The technical challenge lay in seamlessly loading heavy gigapixel visuals and macro textile photography. The studio developed four scripted modules combining interactive quizzes, 3D objects, and seven languages. Occlusion culling of off-screen areas reduced file sizes by 39% at launch. This optimization ensures smooth navigation on both mobile and large screens without any loss in rendering speed.

The system had to convey the craftsmanship of materials without technical slowdowns. The challenge: display very high-resolution visuals on desktop and mobile without compromising initial loading speed. It was essential to ensure millimeter-precise zooming and maintain text legibility across every screen resolution, avoiding overlaps or breaks in user focus.

The approach

Standing before a large screen integrated into a mineral scenography featuring a couture mannequin, visitors explore four scripted modules. The journey unfolds history through a progressive unlocking of chapters. We integrated interactive 3D / CGI views with cylindrical rotations of textile pieces, complemented by macro photography. Each stage features an interactive quiz combining questions, carousels, timelines, and drag-and-drop elements. Interactive markers calibrated to 0.01 guide the eye toward atelier secrets. The interface adapts to seven languages with dedicated typography and white masking of off-screen areas to lighten visual clutter.

Results

The optimization work reduced the standard archive weight by 39%, dropping from 596.4 MB to 362.1 MB, with compressed tiers at 257.7 MB and 225.2 MB. Initial display speed remains instantaneous for the user. Navigation stays perfectly smooth on both mobile and desktop, without any overlapping text.
