British American Tobacco equips its sales representatives with an augmented reality mobile application for their store visits to tobacconists. The tracking needed to recognize the actual 3D volume of physical in-store packaging, rather than being limited to a flat 2D image. The solution relies on computer vision to anchor the 3D product when the case is opened. Running across two distinct mobile applications, the tool integrates four 3D animation sequences viewable from all angles. This enables sales representatives to deliver a stable, face-to-face demonstration directly from their smartphones.

The tool had to work immediately in the hands of sales representatives, without complex handling. Scanning a flat image was not enough. It was necessary to ensure direct volumetric recognition of the physical packaging, with perfect stability of the animations, free of jitter or tracking loss during the presentation.

Our approach

We designed a physical case equipped with a dedicated tracking target and developed two mobile applications for iOS and Android. The sales representative opens the app and points the camera at the case: the computer vision module instantly recognizes the volume of the object. The case comes to life on screen through 3D / CGI sequences, revealing the product at the heart of synchronized visual animations.
